Grinding wheels for grinding cold rolls are generally selected with soft grinding wheels.  Particle size of the grinding wheels should be between 80 mesh and 120 mesh.

The grinding wheel should be carefully and repeatedly statically balanced before use. When the grinding wheel is clamped, the impurities of the grinding wheel shaft and the cone hole in the grinding wheel chuck should be cleaned in advance to avoid eccentricity of the grinding wheel. After the grinding wheel is installed, make wheel dressing a few times. Then remove the wheel and statically balanced again. After the second static balance, it can be used.

Before the use and after the passivation of the grinding wheel, the grinding wheel should be re-trimmed. For the grinding machine with curved or track twisted grinding wheel, it is better to trim the grinding wheel busbar into a curved shape or use a diamond-shaped diamond dresser when grinding the grinding wheel. Those methods can effectively prevent or reduce the surface spiral of roll barrel.

Also note:
 a. Roughly grind the grinding wheel with an old knife and finish the grinding wheel with a new one;


b. When grinding the wheel, the speed of the carriage and the rotation speed of the grinding wheel should be basically the same as those during grinding the rolls. Each time the grinding wheel feeds 0.04mm~0.09mm, it is better to repair 3~4 times;


c. In order to eliminate the formation of Concentric banded stripe or individual protrusions on the surface of the grinding wheel, it is recommended to make idle stroke when repairing the last time;

d. After the grinding wheel is finished, use a brush to clear the surface of the grinding wheel, and at the same time open the coolant to wash sand away;


e. When grinding the wheel and rolls, don’t walk around on the grinding machine console
